Harry Butler and Keith Matthewman, both local lads, started the business in 1988, working from a small workshop in Thornaby, Teesside. The word soon spread that a new garage workshop called 'VOLMECH' was offering quality, trustworthy, car servicing and repairs to Volvo cars at very fair prices. Volmech offered the first real quality alternative to Volvo Main Dealers on Teesside. The result was that the business soon grew. New premises were found and extra staff members added to cope with the increasing work.

Harry and Keith were formerly trained and employed by a local Volvo Main Dealer. Between the two of them, they have over 80 years of combined Volvo experience, possessing deep knowledge of Volvo cars, and the needs of Volvo owners.

Harry and Keith are well known Volvo enthusiasts and have supported and visited the Volvo Owners Club.

From our inception VOLMECH recognised the need to attempt to provide all the facilities and benefits that a Main Dealer can provide. To this end we :-

• invested heavily in modern servicing and diagnostic equipment
• employed further well trained Volvo technicians and parts specialists
• provide courtesy cars, free of charge
• pick up and deliver your car if it is not convenient for you to do so

VOLMECH now employs five full time well trained technicians. All are long term employees who recognise and understand our values, that is to provide a genuine high quality facility to give our customers a comfortable feeling in leaving their car in our hands.

We have faithful customers who travel from areas as far off as London, visiting Teesside for a weekend and leaving their car with us for servicing. We really are popular!!
